Science

Science Intent Statement

At More Park we understand the importance of Science in our daily lives and equip our children with the scientific knowledge and skills to prepare them for an increasingly scientific and technological world. We provide stimulating, engaging and challenging Science teaching in order to foster a natural curiosity and sense of wonder about the wider world.

With God's help, the children will learn to question and discuss scientific issues that may affect their lives, by working scientifically, through scientific enquiry and embedding their understanding and scientific language.

Throughout their time at More Park, the children will experience a variety of topics to encourage respect for the physical environment, living organisms and the processes of Science.

Science Implementation

All classes have at least one Science lesson a week, incorporating a range of scientific skills. The children are also provided with various science enrichment days and activities with talks, workshops and Science Week. Eco Club runs various initiatives and challenges throughout the year, including 'plastic free week' and introducing more recycling into the school. Children are encouraged to question and take an active part in their Science learning and other scientific activities in school.

Science Impact

At More Park, we provide a well thought out, engaging and high-quality Science curriculum, demonstrating progression through the year groups. This provides the children with firm foundations for understanding our world. Throughout each unit, they learn key vocabulary to enable them to articulate their understanding and a variety of skills so the children feel like they are capable scientists. Where possible, links are made with our local community and experts in specific fields, allowing the children to see various possibilities for careers in Science and how Science can be used and approached in different ways. By the end of their time at More Park, the children will have the skills, knowledge and confidence to work collaboratively and practically to investigate Scientific questions and apply what they have learnt to a range of real-life situations and contexts.
