Welcome to Year 3, Kingfisher class!
Outlined below is what we will be learning this term and some general information about the class.
During Term 6, we will be learning about…
The Roman Empire and its impact on Britain.
We will be exploring how and why the Romans invaded Britain, key dates related to the Romans and thinking about the lives of everyday people in Roman Britain.
We will be continuing to ignite the children's love of reading with our text this term of ‘Romans on the Rampage’ by Jeremy Strong. We will be basing our writing around this text.
In Science, we will be looking at nutrition in animals including humans. We will be looking at what animals need to survive, understand what humans need to stay healthy as well as investigating different food groups.
Being a Christian will be our new topic in RE. The children will begin to understand what being a Christian involves as well as what Jesus teaches about helping others through the story of ‘The Good Samaritan.’
Staff in Kingfisher Class
Miss Hollman is our teaching assistant and she will be in class to support and extend the children’s learning. Mr Farrington will be teaching Monday, Wednesday and Friday with Mrs Bale who is in every Tuesday and Thursday.
Drink and fruit
Please send your child into school with a water bottle. The children have free access to their bottles throughout the day and naturally the water is replenished when needed. Fruit or chopped salad/vegetables can be sent in for the children to eat at break times.
In Year 3, the children return and choose their own books to read at home. Not only does this promote independence but the children pick books that interest them and therefore get more enjoyment from their reading. We will remind the children regularly but books can be changed on Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure your child reads at least 5 times a week, leaving comments and signing the reading record.
Year 3 is an exciting year as the children transition from infants to juniors. Weekly swimming lessons take place in Year 3 as well as having communion classes leading to making the Sacrament of first holy communion. This is a wonderful event, and a time for celebration among our families and friends.
Thank you for your continues support.
