Catholic Primary School

Year 3 (Kingfisher)

Welcome to Year 3 Kingfisher Class!

Term 6

This term, our new topic is locating countries using maps with a focus on Europe. We will be exploring environmental regions, key physical and human characteristics , countries and major cities. Our text this term is 'The Boy who biked the world' by Alastair Humphreys. In maths this term, we will be focusing on time, angles and properties of shapes, mass and capacity. In Science, our topic will be forces and magnets . Being a Christian is our new topic in RE. The children will begin to understand what being a Catholic involves as well as what Jesus teaches about helping others through the story of 'The Good Samaritan.'

Staff

We are fortunate to have a great team at More Park. Mrs Champkins will be in class Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Mrs Bale will be in class on Thursday and Friday. We also have Mrs Brown every morning to help to support the children.

Uniform

Please ensure that all school uniform, PE kits and coats are labelled. This makes it easier for the children to find their belongings independently and helps return lost uniform quickly. PE kits need to be in school every day. PE will usually take place on a Friday during term 4 along with swimming on Wednesday afternoon. We ask that earrings are removed before the children enter school on these days. For swimming, please ensure your child has a coat and a large enough bag to put all of their swimming belongings inside.

During the autumn and winter months, we ask that the children bring in clearly labelled outdoor shoes, separate to their PE shoes, to wear on the field at lunchtime. As the weather gets colder, we ask that hats and gloves which the children would like to bring in and wear are also clearly labelled.

Lunch, drinks and snack

Water bottles need to come into class daily and they will be returned daily. Please send them in filled and the children will replenish when necessary, during the day. Please ensure lunch boxes are named as well, as some of the children have the same lunch boxes. Snacks for break times must be fruits or vegetables only and it would be really helpful for the children to put their snack into their plastic wallet that they bring in daily with them. This will mean that the children haven’t got to spend valuable time looking for their snacks in their packed lunch boxes.

Home Learning

Spellings and times tables will continue to be given to the children on a Friday to be tested the following Friday. Please encourage your child to practise their spellings and times tables at home and to complete additional work set on Ed Shed and TTRS.

Children are expected to read at least 5 times a week. This can include books from home as well as their allocated school books. Books will be changed on Tuesday and Thursday. We encourage you to ask questions as your child reads to support their understanding of the text.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us either through the school office or email us at rebecca.champkins@more-park-westmalling.kcsp.org.uk and roxanne.bale@more-park-westmalling.kcsp.org.uk
