Welcome to Year 3, Kingfisher class!
During Term 5, we will be learning about…
The countries in Europe.
During our Geography topic, we will be locating countries using maps. We will be exploring environmental regions, looking at key physical and human characteristics, countries and major cities.
We will be reading 'The Boy who biked the world: On the road to Africa' by Alastair Humphreys and basing our writing around this text .
In Science, we will be looking at forces and magnets. We will be finding out what forces are, how different surfaces affect the motion of an object, how magnets work, which materials are magnetic and how magnetic poles work.
Celebrating Easter and Pentecost will be our new topic in RE. During this topic, we will be looking at how the Church celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus, reading the story of the road to Emmaus as well as learning what happened at Pentecost. Our Gospel value this term is faith, respect and peace.
Staff in Kingfisher Class
Mrs Oliver and Ms Cole will be in class every day to support the children with their learning. Mrs Champkins will be in class Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Mrs Bale will be in class on Thursday and Friday.
Drink and fruit
Please send your child into school with a water bottle. The children have free access to their bottles throughout the day and naturally the water is replenished when needed. Fruit or chopped salad/vegetables can be sent in for the children to eat at break times.
In Year 3, the children return and choose their own books to read at home. Not only does this promote independence but the children pick books that interest them and therefore get more enjoyment from their reading. Books can be changed on Tuesday and Friday. Please ensure your child reads at least 5 times a week, leaving comments and signing the reading record. We encourage you to ask questions as your child reads to gauge their understanding of the text which the children are reading.
Please ensure that all school uniform, PE kits and coats are labelled. This makes it easier for the children to find their belongings independently and prevents items not being returned. During the autumn and winter months, we ask that the children bring in labelled outdoor shoes, separate to their PE shoes, to wear on the field at lunchtime. We would also ask that any gloves or hats which are to be worn during breaks are also clearly labelled.
Please be advised that our PE lessons will now be on Wednesday and Friday.
