Welcome to Year 3, Kingfisher class!
Outlined below is what we will be learning about this term and some general information about the class.
During Term 4, we will be learning about…
We will be exploring what is similar and different between the state of California which is in the United States of America which is located in North America with where we live in West Malling which is in the county of Kent in the United Kingdom.
We will be continuing to ignite the children's love of reading with our text this term of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. We will be basing our writing around this text by writing diary entries, newspaper reports and non-chronological reports.
In Science, we will be looking at plants, identifying and describing the functions of different parts of a flowering plant as well as exploring the life cycle of a plant and what plants require to grow. We will also be studying the work of Andy Warhol during our Art lessons exploring the colours he used as well as creating our own final pieces based on his work.
Staff in Kingfisher Class
Miss Hollman is our teaching assistant and she will be in class to support and extend the children’s learning. As Mrs Champkins begins her maternity leave this term, Mr Farrington has joined the year 3 team teaching throughout the week along with Mrs Bale who is in every Tuesday and Thursday.
Drink and fruit
Please send your child into school with a water bottle. The children have free access to their bottles throughout the day and naturally the water is replenished when needed. Fruit or chopped salad/vegetables can be sent in for the children to eat at break times.
In Year 3, the children return and choose their own books to read at home. Not only does this promote independence but the children pick books that interest them and therefore get more enjoyment from their reading. We will remind the children regularly but books can be changed daily by placing them into the reading tray. Please ensure your child reads at least 5 times a week, leaving comments and signing the reading record.
Year 3 is an exciting year as the children transition from infants to juniors. Weekly swimming lessons take place in Year 3 as well as having communion classes leading to making the Sacrament of first holy communion. This is a wonderful event, and a time for celebration among our families and friends.
